There Won’t Be A Return Journey

You might. But for how long? What will Mordor do? Will you ever taste the freshness of strawberries, feel the peace and tranquility of the Shire again? Unlike Peter Jackson’s portrayal in The Lord of the Rings movies, no place is ever safe from harm.

But what does that mean today? Is any place truly safe from harm? Any sanctuary that can fully be trusted and relied on? Any house or country we can go to? I don’t think so. When have we seen some place that has not been affected by what’s going on in the world? Think about World War I, and World War II… no one was left unscathed, and in some ways the United States least of all.

Like J.R.R. Tolkien showed in The Lord of the Rings, not even the happy carefree land of the Shire can remain unharmed. The War of the Ring affected everyone, Men, Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves and the like. It is the same here in the real world. We are all affected by change. Change is something that is happening all around us. Some for the better, much not.

There is one Sanctuary that does not change, that stays the same throughout all. Though He does not change, the world does. Yet Right and Wrong are the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. What changes is the world’s perception of what is Right and what is Wrong. And it is that perception that needs to change for the better.

If we want there to be a return journey, we need to go and help that change. Ensure it’s for the better. Do what we can to change things ourselves. There are many ways we can do it, we just need to find them and make use of them. And if we don’t make use of them… “There won’t be a return journey, Sam.”
