He Did It First

Often I hear people criticizing President Bush for the recent disaster with Hurricane Katrina. He seemed to accept their criticism with his announcement that he was to blame. Yet those people who I have heard criticizing the President, criticize him even more for accepting the blame. It is puzzling then, for me at least. I don’t quite understand what they’re trying to get at.

Is it blame for creating the actual hurricane that they want him to accept? The idea is not completely preposterous, in that I have heard the blame for the occurrence of the hurricane placed on the President, the Republican Party, even Russia. Such accusations are preposterous, because it is not possible for them to control the natural weather. However, it seems as if they are not intended to insult, but rather to amuse. Yet why then do people inisist on continuing to blame President Bush when he has already accepted the blame?

Of course there are a few who seem to think that our President is saying that he is the one who personally made the mistakes that happened with Hurricane Katrina. I should hope that we can realize though, that those who actually committed the mistakes answer to people who will end up answering to the President. Because of that, regardless of the level of his personal involvement, the President is responsible. So it is with any leader, and a good one will not shove the blame onto someone else. A good leader will understand that as a leader he is ultimately responsible for those whom he has been placed over.

Therefore, if the people do not wish their leader to be held accountable for their actions, it behooves the people to think about the consequences their actions could carry before acting. A leader who does not want to be forced to accept responsibility for his followers’ mistakes should take a greater part in guiding them away from the possibility of mistakes. And each one of us should be prepared to do one of the hardest things to do – admit when we are wrong and accept the full consequences of our actions. Let us follow the example of President Bush by taking the blame when those under us have gone astray.

Really, President Bush is responsible for Katrina! If he hadn’t been in office, it wouldn’t have happened! :P [/sarcasm]

‘those who actually committed the mistakes answer to people who will end up answering to the President.’

My understanding is that the governor of LA and the mayor of New Orleans are mostly to blame, and that they are accountable only to the people. Under the circumstances, the President’s hands were tied. There was nothing he could do.
Compare the actions of the governor of NH and the governor of LA. During the recent flooding in NH, the governor returned from a trip to Europe, declared a state of emergency, and called out five hundred National Guardsmen. The governor of LA had the same kind of authority and, in point of fact, without a specific request for federal help from the governor of LA, there was nothing the President could do legally.
I think that in this case, the President’s accepting of the blame was just to pacify the mainstream media.

Our president is an idiot. He doesn’t make sense when he talks, and he doesn’t know how to get the other countries to be on good terms with America. He hasn’t thought his decisions through which can be seen as we have absolutely NO plan at this time after mobilizing in Iraq. George Bush is not alone either, most politicians are people like him, they’re just fancier talkers so they convince people (not me) that they know what they’re doing. Look at the Vietnam war. America was up the creek without a paddle, and it’s not George W. Bush’s fault. Too bad I’m not the leader of America, I would have a much harsher policy with countries like Iraq. The people paid taxes for Sadaam, and he used public locations to hide weaponry. that’s justification to bomb the hell out of anywhere that is militarily strategic. Take World War II for example. Germany beats france because they massively bombed them into submission. America quickly beat Japan after nuking some cities to kingdom come. More lives were saved as a result. We can’t pussyfoot around Iraq and the middle east. Uh, the point… The point is that I should be president. Wait… The real point is George Bush is a bad president, but just as bad as the rest of them, so get off his ass and vote better next election.
